Frequently Asked Questions - Other Issues

Q - Will those on EMAs be entitled to a clothing grant?
A - EMA policy and programme does not affect clothing grant policy and programme.

Q - Will the Local Education Authorities be sharing application forms, IT knowledge etc?
A - Yes, we now have a national application form which will be used by all local authorities in Scotland for academic year 2010-11. You have also received a spreadsheet from us for the financial assessment.

Q - Where are the learning agreements held?
A - The original is sent to the local authority and a copy is held at the school.

Q - Can applicants apply late?
A - Yes. If you are eligible from the Autumn intake and apply by 30th September, you will be paid from the start of term. Alternatively, if you are eligible from the winter intake and apply before the last day in February, you will be paid from the start of the January term. No application will be processed for academic year 2010-11 after 31 March 2011.

Q - Who is eligible from the winter intake?
A - Those pupils whose birthday falls between the 1st October and the end of February and are meant to leave at Christmas.

Q - What about special arrangements for vulnerable children?
A - A definition of vulnerable children is included in the Guidance document as there should be a degree of flexibility when administering EMAs for this group of young people.

Q - What about travelling children?
A - EMA entitlement, once established, can be moved around from one authority to the next.
